This is the touching story of the relationship developed between a man and an injured swan who has displayed not only gratitude but trust in one remarkably beautiful moment. Richard Wiese was visiting the UK’s Abbotsbury Swannery a few years back to host a television show “Born to Explore” when he ran into this injured swan. The bird has been injured after flying into a chain-link fence. Wiese got closer to the animal and tried to make it feel comfortable before transporting it to a sanctuary for treatment. Years later swan and rescuer met again, and the animal appears not to have forgotten what Wiese did for him. Wiese told ABC news: “When I put it next to me I could feel its heart beating and it just relaxed its neck and wrapped it around mine. It’s a wonderful moment when an animal totally trusts you.” They’re territorial creatures who will defend themselves should a human come near a nest, for example. Furthermore, Wiese told ABC News, while swans are beautiful animals, they can be vicious around people. Yet this particular swan didn’t recoil or attack out of fear when handled by Wiese. Instead, the swan realized that he was perfectly safe in his rescuer’s arms and felt more than content enough to provide Wiese with an unforgettable hug.
